The Intersection of Gaming and Technology

Today, as you may already know, the gaming industry happens to be both one of the largest, and most rapidly expanding ones in the world. The Fortnite world championship tournament just wrapped up, and was in fact one of the most widely viewed and consumed ‘sporting’ events in history. So there is no doubt when people say that gaming is one of the industries which has truly been granted an ability to grow along with the technological evolutions which we so regularly experience.

Contrary to popular belief, all this doesn’t mean that traditional gaming is dead, as that medium continues to have a stable player-base, and while not exactly ‘flourishing’, isn’t going anywhere anytime soon either. There are plenty of traditional games internationally, and on a local level which continue to flourish despite the overwhelmingly positive reception of videogames in recent memory. But of course, it would be wrong to not recognize the impact that the evolution in general tech has had on the videogames industry, if not completely crediting its success to it.

Part of the reason of the overwhelming success of modern videogames is the technology which supports it, and facilitates its general immersiveness, which is one of the major selling points of the modern triple A gaming industry. It’s important to note that technology doesn’t just interact with gaming in any sense in a unilateral way, but in fact, it is a multifaceted process by which many types of games, both modern, and traditional, benefit from the evolution of technology. In fact, plenty of traditional games were not killed, but instead flourished under the influence of technologies such as the internet.

One of the prime examples of this is the Indian traditional money game, satta. This game works somewhat similarly to a lotto in the west, and has been enjoyed for an extremely long time now. Additionally, satta happens to be one of the oldest traditional games, and has found a way to engrain itself into the general Indian culture at this point. So understandably, there was rampant speculation when the uprising of the internet happened that satta would be killed and replaced by some other kind of online game. This however, did not ring true in the slightest, as instead of being killed, it was complemented by the advent of the internet. Sites such as SattaKing began popping up, a portal which lets one track the results of satta all over India.

In conclusion, while traditional gaming isn’t going anywhere, the marriage between cutting edge technology and video gaming has propelled it to the forefront of media in more ways than one. As SattaKing proves, there is a way for gaming and technology to coexist, not in a competitive manner, but in a fashion which allows them to complement one another. If more traditional games were to go the route of Satta and SattaKing, then a far more engaging and peaceful ecosystem would be created in the gaming landscape of today.
